Awakening: Seeing Spring and Its Laughter

the Delicate Laughter of Spring

Earth laughs in flowers.  -Ralph Waldo Emerson

Isn’t it refreshing to feel Spring coming on? To me, the smells are always a sign of Spring–the fragrance of sunlight on fresh earth, the clean silver rain pattering on pavement, the moment-by-moment unfolding of the world coming alive. It’s an awakening.

As the flowers begin to unfurl and bob in the spring breeze, we can sense the Earth laughing, saying once again, “I’m alive!” All we have to do to join in the celebration is pay attention …

Are Spring’s first flowers blooming outside your windows today? (In Prague, not yet– but I can’t wait!)

  1. I hunt for crocuses each day with my boys but we haven’t seen any yet. I FEEL them coming, though.

    Beautiful photograph!

    1. I love that, Erika– so fun to see the world through kids’ eyes. And I love that they help us to notice the little changes, like crocuses. Thank you, and enjoy! – JK
